Study Smarter with Katav Flash Cards
Studying is hard. Remembering everything you have learned is even harder. Whether you are preparing for an exam, trying to retain concepts from a lecture, or reviewing material from weeks ago, the challenge is always the same: how do you make knowledge stick?
Katav's Flash Cards feature is designed to solve exactly that problem — and it does it in a remarkably smart way.

What Are Flash Cards in Katav?
Flash Cards in Katav are interactive question-and-answer cards attached directly to your class notes. Each class has a dedicated Study section where you can access Flash Cards alongside other review tools like Audio Revision. Rather than forcing you to leave your notes or switch to another app, the flash card experience lives right inside the same workspace where you study.
How to Find Flash Cards
Getting to the Flash Cards feature is straightforward:
In the left sidebar, click Subjects and open any subject you are currently studying.
Click the Classes tab to see all classes for that subject.
Open a class that has notes.
Click the Study tab at the top of the class editor.
Click Flash Cards.

Generate Flash Cards with AI
One of the most powerful features is the ability to generate flash cards automatically using AI. Once you open the Flash Cards panel, simply click Generate with AI. Katav reads your class notes and creates a complete set of relevant question-and-answer cards in seconds.
Each AI-generated card is clearly labeled with an AI badge, so you always know which cards were created automatically. The cards are numbered (for example, 1 / 10), making it easy to track your progress through the deck.
Create Your Own Flash Cards
Prefer to write your own cards? Click New Flashcard inside the Flash Cards panel. A form appears with three fields: Question, Answer, and an optional Mnemonic field. Mnemonics are memory tricks or associations that can help you recall the answer more easily during review.
You can also edit or delete any card — whether it was AI-generated or created manually — using the edit and delete icons visible on each card.
How Flash Cards Work: The Study Experience
When you open a flash card, you see the question side first. A label at the bottom reads tap to flip, inviting you to click the card to reveal the answer. The answer may include highlighted text to help you focus on the most important information.
After revealing the answer, two buttons appear at the bottom of the card: a red X if you did not know the answer, or a green checkmark if you did. This self-assessment drives a spaced repetition approach, meaning Katav will prioritize cards you find more difficult and show them to you more often.

Why Flash Cards Work
Flash cards are backed by decades of research in cognitive science. The act of retrieving information from memory, known as the testing effect, is one of the most effective ways to consolidate long-term learning. Combined with spaced repetition, which spaces out reviews at optimal intervals, flash cards help you remember more with less study time.
Katav integrates these proven techniques directly into your note-taking workflow. By generating flash cards from your own notes, you are reviewing the exact material your professor taught, in the format that science shows is most effective.
Quick Review on the Home Page
Did you know that flash cards also appear on the Katav Home page? The Quick Review widget shows any cards that are due for review across all your subjects. This makes it easy to stay on top of your study routine without having to open each subject individually.
Print Your Flash Cards
Prefer to study offline? The Flash Cards panel includes a print icon in the top-right corner, letting you print your cards for paper-based review. This is especially useful before exams when you want to review away from your screen.
